A truly unique

day out!

Ilfracombe is blessed with some beautiful neighbours - Woolacombe's beautiful beach; the village of Lee; the shops and cafes of Braunton, stunning Saunton, the wonders of Exmoor ... but one of the best days out is surely to Lynmouth.

Lynmouth is approxiamtely 45 minutes away by car - and you can choose the inland route or the stunning coastal road.

Lynmouth is at the meeting point of two stunning rivers.

A well signposted walk from Lynmouth takes you on a beautiful riverside walk to Watersmeet, with a National Trust cafe.

Lynmouth not only has a small picturesque harbour, but a lovely beach surrounded by cliff views.

The town of Lynton is immediately above Lynmouth - with shops, cafes, more parking - and a water-powered funicular railway ferries passengers up the steep track between Lynmouth and Lynton. The trip, with stunning views back down toward the coast, is an absolutel must.

As an alternative to the walk to Watersmeet along the East Lyn River, an entrance fee allows you a walk to the Glen Lyn Gorge and waterfalls on the West Lyn River. There is also an exhibition all about the river.

Vallley of Rocks is yet another 'must visit' place. Incredible geology and steep cliffs means dramatic vistas and beautiful sunsets and there's also feral goats! There's lots of parking (fees apply) and a lovely cafe.

We've already described a full day out and we haven't even mentioned the fantastic pubs and cafes, unique shops and galleries, boats trips along the coast, crazy golf, a tourist information centre which has the answers to all your questions about Exmoor, great pasties...

And should it rain, there is a fascinating model railway built in the 1980s, and the memorial hall in which you can read all about the terrible flood of 1952 which destroyed much of Lynmouth and see an incredibly detailed model of Lynmouth.

Lynmouth really is a unique day out - make sure you find time to squeeze a visit into your holiday!
